Since there seemed to be a reasonable number of people who were not happy with the 'consensus' choice for the next map making competition theme, I am starting this thread to hold an official vote for a new theme.

Because of the relatively few responses I am trying to make this as simple as possible.

Possible themes are listed in this shared google document:

If you would like to suggest a theme, just add it to that google document.  Feel free to organize, alphabetize, etc. that doc.

If you would like to vote for a theme, in the interested of simplicity voting will be done in the same manner as the currently open vote for best Pangaea map.  Just pick your top 3 choices from the list in that word doc, and list them in order of your preferences.  You can vote for less than three if you would like.  You cannot vote for the same theme multiple times.  Your #1 choice gets 3 points, #2 gets 2 points, #3 gets 1 points.   We total everything up when the voting is over and whoever has the most points wins.  In the case of a tie, all except the top tied candidates are excluded and a second round of voting is held where each voter only chooses one theme .

If you would like to give arguments for against a theme, feel free to post in this thread.

Voting will end at the end of the day Thursday.  Votes will be tallied on Friday.

Also, I am going to remove the 'consensus' option for theme deciding from the 'official' rules.

I think Steam Punk should fit within Machinery...  Especially when considering the boards at the end of the competition.  It would be much better to have lots of machinery boards, some of which are steam punk based, than lots of steam punk boards... all of which are steam punk... no?

Yeah, sure... But Steam Punk is pretty broad if you consider all of what falls into it.

It looks like Old West/Westerns wins with 14 points.

Close behind was Steampunk with 11 points.

I counted Hugh's vote towards Old West & broadened the theme to Old West/Westerns because we have previously discussed how the theme can be interpreted broadly.
