The initial idea behind this thread was originally mentioned (as far as I can tell) in this thread and was suggested we start one on its own.  So here it is.

It was suggested and agreed by several that board designers should be allowed to open a second (or dual) account so as to test out rules, borders, etc. on the boards they're designing without being penalized for it.

This thread is to discuss how we, as the said board designers (though I have yet to release a board myself), think this type of system should work if incorporated.  So post your comments on it here. 

I have a 2nd account I use for testing but not really playing. I basically only use him so I can see how the map looks in the player and if I am testing out some funky gameplay idea. He even has a released map so I could take advantage of the free month! I haven't had any problems with it so I don't really know what this issue is unless somebody thinks that him not having any completed games is weird.

Open a second account but only play Dev games with it and don't try and hide it...ie my second account is Yurog and I've made that known that I have it just for testing purposes and it's easy to see that he hasn't played in any public games.

Tom has already said he's going to ignore double-accounting outside of Public games. So there's not much to worry about as long as you don't join any of those with your doppelganger.

As a matter of convenience for authors, what are the odds that someday in the distant future we could have functionality added that allowed one person to play two seats in the same game while it is in DEV status?

Well, I've had a 2nd account as well for nearly as long as my main account - named "SOM tester" - to help test out features and playability and such. Tom was the one who suggested this idea in the other thread, so I wasn't sure if anything more had been done or said about it.

there are a number of them out there; most of the "GearHeads" seem to have one.

I can barely manage this account and although it would be nice for testing, I cannot forsee myself ever creating a second (I usually make one of you guys join a game to see how it looks and operates). If I do make another account, it will be known.
