Westeros? Just curious, seems Game of Thrones would be perfect for this

There are some nice maps out there... this is already a board game too. Part of my problem was that it was too tall and too much like Britain. If somebody else wants to take it on, I've already passed in my mind.
I mulled it over several times because I loved the show but hit the same wall as EN did. It's too tall and would/could be a pretty complicated endeavor to do it any justice.
I know nothing about the show or the map other than glancing at what Ed posted - but you could turn the map sideways right?
Directions are important in the story... lots of "of the north!"s and such.... so it would be strange to orient north anywhere but north.
I am currently in the process of developing one. Just about finished coloring the board, working now on drawing map lines for provinces, etc...
As for the height of the map, I'm considering two options:
1) Release 2 map versions, one of the "North" and another of the "South" Westeros.
2) Making the full map board, and being content to the only users being die hard fans of the books / show.
Either way I'm going along the lines of the popular "Civil War" map, where individual cities are much more important than controling provinces. (Ex: Controlling Winterfell will be much more important than controlling the whole North)
In my feel this helps preserve the feel of the books, where everyone is scrambling to secure as many fortresses, cities and towns as possible.
Thoughts? Opinions? Again I've just finished the coloring, so this won't be coming out for a while. Probably end of November given how much time I can spend on it.
Another option is do it like a rotated ribbon world - cut the map in half and have the north half on the left, and the south half on the right.
I like the idea of cutting the map in half like Ozyman said. The books already show the maps in two parts on the inside covers.
If you cut the map it half it would be cool if your fill layer connected the bottom of the north and top of the south, so you could see your territory on both maps.
I've done some Google searching the past couple of days, and here are the results I've found so far.
The Westeros fansite's forum has a thread about a Risk map for Westeros. On the second page a member links a map (Low-Res, Hi-Res) based off of this map.
This may be a good starting point for someone.
Ohbie,
Oooo that map is alot nicer looking than the one I'm making...
if you split in in half, it might be cool to place each half on an open book background, so that it looks like a map inside a book
oo, nice jigler...
Hey, I am new to the site as well as a die hard ASOIAF fan. Any idea on how this project was going along for those that said they where currently making a map of the Seven Kingdoms?
Bear, I got busy IRL and haven't made any progress since my last post. Now unemployed however and bored...
May start again...

It is Britain. The whole story is pretty much just the Wars of the Roses with enough fiction to protect the identities of the innocent and some Fantasy gloss painted over it.
That's not to say it's not a great series of books or TV programming.
Haven't read the book, but the map and Cram's post bring to mind Kingmaker (Avalon Hill?). I think that board is less vertically oriented.
