I know a lot of people who are here found the place as a result of leaving Warfish due to stuck games or other performance crippling problems. Theep showed up on the forums stating that he would be looking into refunds for people who lost PLUS membership time due to stuck games. Head on over to the forums to get yourself on the list, if you're interested.
(Don't hold your breath, though. Theep tries his hardest, but in the end, he's not the one to write checks or implement code. And if you're here for the reasons that warrant refunds, then I imagine you're familiar with how quickly promises are fulfilled in the old world. Anyway, I thought I'd mention it, because refunds are win.)
You get your payment yet?
Theep does try, it would be better if Steven just gave him complete control.
Steven? Who is Steven? =/
It's a total snow job. I don't really get what Theep's investment is, but I don't believe anything he says any more; I don't think he's talked to Steven recently at all. I don't think they're developing a tool to reset stuck games or whatever he's been nattering on about, and I'm certain that there is 0 chance of a refund for anybody.
But by all means, go over there and sign up for one. The WF forums could always use more action, soon there won't be anything left BUT Theep's lies and my bitterness.
I honestly think Theep does at least try and talk to Steven, and I think he does want to help Warfish and he even would do a lot of what he says, I think he just doesn't have the support/clearance to do anything.
I'm not going to knock a guy that's being constructive about trying to save the site. Honestly if I wasn't part of the forums or "community" I wouldn't have noticed the issue. I'd have just kept making games and been a little irked at bugs. I still have a lot of fun with my other friends over there and life goes on.
The site isn't doomed, it's just not actively supported. Happens to a lot of games that have bugs yet are still fun to play.

Just look at how long Geocities managed to hang around.
Hey guys, could someone possibly explain the whole situation with Warfish? My friend invited me a couple years ago and I've played mostly games with the 10-15 friends I know who also use the site. I've also done a fair share of public games. At this point, I am just going to finish my current games and leave. They've been going SO slowly lately anyway. Wargear seems to have fixed all of the major issues I had with Fish. But anyway yeah what is the deal with Warfish and Steven and Theep and this site?
Steven owns and runs Warfish. He is the only one with access to do anything at all to the site (other than Theep and Doom who have some administration/moderation privileges on the forums, but not really any access to accounts). Theep is somehow related to Steven (cousins or something I think), so he has the ability to call Steven, that has moved Steven some in the past, although it looks like that is wearing off as well.
Steven pays the bills to keep the Warfish domain name (and therefore keep some money for Plus accounts and map sales going into his pocket) and will usually restart the site after a few days when it goes down, but other than that I'm not aware of anyone that has had successful contact with Steven recently. He hasn't logged into the forums as Steven since April 19, and hasn't logged on to his WF accounts since the 23 of October...soooo...
WarGear was secretly started by tom (aka Kobra Kai from WF) and is ran and maintained by him (I believe he's had some help with some coding from a few different people over the past year, but as far as I know it's mostly just him). So yes, play here and bring your friends :)
And welcome to the forums!
Yertle: I really don't know what we'd be doing if tom didn't start WG
Yertle: scary to think about :p
RiskyBack: You'd have more kids and I'd have a real job, probably
Yertle pretty much nailed it. All anyone has to do is go to those forums for 10 minutes to realize that Steven does nothing any more, and Theep tries his hardest but doesn't have the power to actually fix 95% of the problems. There is nothing left for me there any more, but I do still visit the forums occasionally just to see how bad it's gotten.
Meanwhile, Tom has done an amazing job with this site and it has already surpassed what WF has (imo). Feel free to tell anyone and everyone to move over here and try it out.
I think all you have to do is look at Fish Wars: Episode III from ToS and Gear Wars: The Force Unleashed to see the differences in the two sites. Same map, same gameplay, the WarGear version is vastly superior.
That's pretty much the story I figured. I wonder why he just gave up on the site but won't let anyone else take control. I like this site better already and appreciate many of the new features. Unfortunately it seems like WarGear is just missing a few of my favorite maps from WarFish - the Yuma boards and Electoral College.
When I reported racism over there, the account was suspended in a few days. Though I do wonder why it takes more than a year to remove porn.
Maybe Steven's afraid of violating yadayada7414's first amendment rights.
Ok, I know I'm old according to our recent survey but... what is the 7414 thing... it's in a couple of profiles and I could never figure it out, and second when you look at the group of them and their messages I just wonder how they figured out how to use a computer... or are they intelligent and just 9?? (Sorry to any 9 year olds who are here! )

From an old thread on WF:

Here is the official word on what 7414 means... did I mention this before?
it is a joke about the random numbers people have to add to their email addresses (you know, when "Your_Name" is already taken).

Thanks Yertle, I was evidently thinking about it too much. Kind of a lame joke.
I can't believe nobody is going to make a comment about me using an emoticon. I just couldn't resist with them so conveniently placed in the reply window.
