Is there any way to have the messages show up in the game instead of having to click out of the board to see them. It is a little issue, more of convinence than anything else. Nice job all around though KK.
You mean have them pop up automatically or when you click on a button to show them in a popup window maybe? I have thought about doing that definitely... same with the cards tab, make it a popup instead.
Well I would actually like to see some form of the setup that Warfish has. I have grown lazy with the messages on the same screen as the game map, and having to change the tab to read messages is not convenient. I even missed an important strategy move from a teammate because I didn't know there were messages posted!
(Sorry ElectricMonk!)
But on Warfish, the flash player doesn't have the messages on the same screen - you have to tab to the messages page... unless you're still playing with the regular UI?
No, Warfish still displays the messages below the gameboard (although there are issues with messages refreshing in the Flash loader, or something like that). There IS a 'messages' tab, but the messages are also displayed on the main screen.
The whole idea of the Flash interface, IMO, is so that once you log in and load a game, zero additional page loads should be required until your turn is FINISHED.
I'd like some sort of notification if a new message has been posted; especially a private one.
I've had lots of Warfish games where it wasn't until after my turn that I looked down and saw that someone had written me a note that should have made me take my turn differently.
I'm thinking some sort of pop-up box with new private messages when you first load the player.
As was said, flash UI still has messages under the map.
Ahem, yes, I really should know that.
I've always thought the way the messages were displayed at the bottom on WF was kind of crappy. Would a 'Messages' button which pops up a message window be any better? It could flash when new messages had arrived.
I actually agree with the looks crappy, but for usability it's better to have them there, so I'm torn.
If you could arrange it so the Comm tab in flash could indicate unread messages, like:
Comm [2]
then this would probably make me lean towards not having them at the bottom of the map. Having to click on the Comm to see the messages is no worse than having to scroll down and read the 1st one to see if anything has changed, so that would make it a wash in terms of usability, so you can go with the non-crappy look solution.
Oh and no new window please =]
As far as what constitues a 'new' message, I would lean towards any message posted since my last turn. Would be easier to code, and would insure that I didn't forget about an important message if I checked it earlier but my turn didn't come up for another day or so.
Yes, that should be pretty easy to achieve and would help with messages being missed.
I take it loading something just outside the player (mainly the map region) like on the right side of the page (in the unused column space) would be tough? That way it pops up but stays out of the way of your game (and you could keep it up while taking your turn).
That space outside the player is not really under control though, in the sense that the map and screen resolution can be any size. Then your choices are scrunch it up so it fits, or pick a default size and more often than not cause a horizontal scroll bar to appear.
It also seems the messages in the Player may display out of order at times. In this game http://www.wargear.net/games/view/3755/Info the message list outside the Flash is 12345 from bottom to top, inside the Flash it is 34512 from bottom to top.
Doom got it, I wanted the messages to show up at the bottom of the board(ie.WF.... I do like the idea of the comm button flashing when there is a new message though. Thanks
As long as we can know when a message has been posted that should be fine. Nice idea IRoll11s!
I would like the ability to Edit/Delete the last message posted (if it was made by me).
Yes, definitely. I've used that feature quite often in WF =/.
