I saw mention of this in another thread, and wanted to make a thread for the game. For those of you unaware Minecraft is a sandbox-style game where you destroy terrain and build structures, while avoiding / fighting zombies, skeletons, spiders, and creepers that make a very frightening hissing noise before blowing up in your face. The possibilities of what you can do are nearly endless, and your creativity is really allowed to shine (even if you're like me and have none).
Basically, it's like legos but 1000x more fun.
This link is someone going through some gameplay and describing his adventures (with pi ctures); it is what really got me excited and influenced me to buy the game: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/tag/mine-the-gap/ (you'll want to start with the bottom one, #1, and work your way up)
These links are just some of the multitude of things that have been done in the game that should appeal to all you nerd-types:

I have a lot of fun with this game, and I'm sure at least a few others here do as well. If you're interested, you can go to www.minecraft.net to learn more; it is currently still in Alpha phase and being updated regularly, but is already so much fun.
The wiki page may also help you learn more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minecraft
I looked into this some after those other posts, but I haven't seen the avoid/fighting aspects, seemed all about building stuff.
Can you build anything you want? Do you have to actually do anything to be able to build?
I was/am still pretty confused by it all for some reason :P
So, most of the videos don't show you the monsters, but they spawn at night and will attack you on sight. There are zombies and skeleton archers which will then catch on fire and burn when hit by sunlight, spiders that will stay during the day but not attack you during the day, and creepers (the creepy looking green block head things) which are the most fearsome creatures you will ever encounter. If they see you (at any time, day or night), they will walk towards you somewhat rapidly, and as soon as they get close to you they will emit a hissing noise, swell up for about 3/4 of a second, then explode.
Many people trying to do something very creative will play on a server with these turned off, because creepers can destroy your creations if you aren't careful.
As for building, it's literally just placing various blocks next to each other. The only thing you have to do in order to do this is actually collect the blocks (unless you're playing on a server that allows you to just have them). It sounds boring but it's actually a lot of fun :P.
You know how to host a Survival multiplayer server? I'm sure a WarGear Multiplayer server would be pretty fun.
I actually play this game, have you been to the neither yet? "ghosts" there :P go to minecraftwiki.net to see all you might want, and to minecraftskins.com to change the apearance of your character.
look up the TNT cannon lol
This link won't be relevent after today, but here it is ...
anybody play on a good server? I've been playing a little solo and I'd like to try some new stuff.
