With hurricane Sandy knocking out power for large chunks of the east coast, should the game boot function be disabled? Fwi i live in the midwest so im only looking to help my eastern opponents.
I like this proposal, for non-Real-Time games that is.

+1
+1 There's already ~1 million people without power in that area
I heard more like 7 million.

Might definitely be more...I saw a number on the tv in passing.
Either way, that's 1 - 7 million more upvotes to turning off the boot timer :)
You were both right. 1 Million in NYC, was 7 approx. in the region. It's now 8.1 and rising.
+1 I'm in Colorado, so not affected, but would rather not win games via others being booted.
+1 from someone who lives in CT and doesn't have power.
Although, the office never seems to close...
While I agree with the sentiment behind this push, I don't think doing so is a good idea.
Background first - I teach at a Community College in upstate NY. I teach on-line classes and have students in NYC. I had assignments due Monday night. Last weekend I was debating - do I extend the deadlines or not? The problem is doing so usually carry unexpected consequences. It is also hard to do it "fairly" - How long do I extend them? Suppose I say two days and you are out of power for three? Is it fair for the students that worked ahead of time in anticipation for such an event? And if you make this decision this time, what about the next? Power outages because of snowstorms is not uncommon around here.
I did have one student contact me Sunday saying she may have issues - so I told her I would give her a break if she needed it. This what I want to foster in my students- being proactive in dealing with problems.
I know the analogies between College and Wargear are not one-to-one, but this event was well forecasted. I am sure Wargear is not on the list of "Steps to take in an emergency", but logging in and setting vacation is not that hard - and if you are not premium you probably should be.
I do hope that anyone in the path of the storm is coming out alright. I was actually in lower Manhatten Saturday night - the pre-Halloween partying was in full swing, but I did see one woman stocking up on bottles of water.
I hope everybody is taking the precautions to stay safe as well.
w.r.t. WG, It would still be a good thing to suspend boots since you can't proactively take turns if it's not your turn and having to use already limited vacation time for a force majeure seems pretty severe.
I am not voting on this, but in regards to Amidon's comment, I lost power but did have the foresight to set my vacation ahead of time to prevent being booted. 'course, this would not apply to players who do not have vacation priviledges.
I think it's probably a moot point now.
