I'm just trying to help. I also learned to type on a typewriter - although I am younger than that statement would lead one to believe - and eliminating the automatic extra space my thumb wanted to insert after periods was a very hard habit for me to break (some time ago). Now it catches my eye when I see it and it looks archaic.

Disagree. Strongly Disagree. One space is not enough.
Wow, I can't believe there are so many backwards supporters of two spaces. It's just so wrong and unnecessary...

Unfortunately where I work our style guide calls for single spacing between sentences. I dunno. It just feels good to do it. That was all single. Here's double.
Note how the message board editor automatically ruins it all.
I agree with asm 100% on this topic.
Wow, I can barely say that with a straight face.
I vote for 2 spaces.
i vote for 1 space. in some fonts 2 spaces ends up looking like a bad forced justify!
oh and i love how hugh got post #64 to run out of the box (since it didn't have spaces?)!

I, however, had surprisingly little trouble reading what you wrote. However, there is a company I have to work with called Contractor's Exchange. Even with proper punctuation, capitalization, and spacing, I can't help but giggle when I read it. I'd spend all day laughing if we compounded the whole thing.
I take it you have mostly plumbers?

I am strongly for two spaces after periods. Periods need more space, it's just the way it is.

Pffft. Go 1920x1080. Problem solved.

Then stop using stupid fonts. 2 SPACES FO' LIFE!
I wouldn't say I hate them. It's kind of the ultimate good news/bad news situation.
One of my big pet peeves is dealing with documents and text that have a bunch of extra spaces, line breaks, and tabs strewn about all over the place. It can really screw up formatting and can be a pain to fix. Modern word processing has automatic kerning that (should) make extra spaces superfluous. Some fonts and some word processes are poorly designed, but most look just fine without extra spaces.
If you need to add space between text in a line or between lines, you should use only command to do so (e.g. one "space" or "line break" character), and modify the properties to get the desired spacing.
Is it really so hard to press the space bar twice after a period that you have to resort to global formatting?
Double spacing went extinct at the dawn of the self-publishing web era.
Tell you what, enter a few double spaced sentences in the Quick Reply box below and click Quick Reply, and tell me what you get. Mmm hmmm, thought so.
Is it really so hard to adapt? Or would you rather spend your entire life typing after every sentence...
