finally, new reading material. this was getting to be like when i let all my magazine subscriptions expire and there wasn't anything new to read in the shitter for 6 months or so. I just kept paging through the same articles over and over, simply for something to do.

Most of my shitter reading material doesn't really expire, if you get my drift...

hey tom, any word on where you're at fixing the new posts/first unread post thing (a difficult thing to do, fixed already and just not working for me, not high on the priority list)? it was/is extremely difficult to catch up after being gone for 4 days. i can kinda figure out where i was cus i know approximately the last time i read things before turkey hiatus. but i'm going to be extremely busy this week getting things done at work so i can be gone deer hunting all next week so trying to catch up on TWO weeks will be darn near impossible!

Anyone else still having problems with the forum unread posts icon?

I believe all mine have been working correctly. There appears to be one or two threads that still show as unread (old threads), but everything new/recent has been updated correctly.

i can tell which threads have something new, yes.

trying to tell which posts are new in said threads is the problem.

there is no indication of which post is new since last read. the 'jump to first unread post' button jumps to the top of a page (was going to say jumps to the page with the first unread post, but i had a couple that just jumped to the first page instead).

Ok gotcha regarding showing unread posts.

The jump to button and also the main thread title link should both jump to the first unread post. If you have already read all the messages in the thread then it just goes to the top of the last page. Not sure why that would not be working for you, what browser (+version) are you running?

IE 7.0.5730.13 - just installed it a few weeks ago after finding out there were forum issues with IE 6 (so should be the latest or darn close).

weird, looking at it a bit more, it tacks on a "#post_x" (where x is the post number) at the end of the url.

for example: "http://www.wargear.net/forum/showthread/106/Board_Designer_feature_requests#post_14"

looks like it is doing something thoughtful, but doesn't actually jump to the right location. as if the tagging point got moved to the top of the page instead.

That's how the jump to mechanism is supposed to work - the #post_14 references a bookmark in the page. I think I've got a fix for your problems - will go out in tonight's code update.

oh and while we're at it, how about adding those new message badges to the top level forum list?

It was the jump to tags inside the thread were not in a standard form. To be honest I don't know why it worked for everyone else and not you but there you go!

I've got the new message badges for the forum front page on my ToDo list :)

If I click on a thread that has undread message and there are 3 pages of messages, it will jump to page 2 instead of page 3. Is that related to that?
