Okay, I forgot where we were carrying on this conversation with me, Alpha and Tom, probably more than one place. But now this is totally messed up:

Both games HAD new public messages but did NOT display message flag on My Games list or on the header once the game opened.

Did not display message flag on My Games list, but did have one on the header once the game opened. There are no public messages.

I'm not ignoring this one, I just cannot reproduce it in the Dev environment. I've tried taking turns in between sending messages, changing timezones and browsers, teamplay etc etc. Very odd.

No rush. Just wanted to stake out a spot reserved for efforts to track down this particular oddity, and add data points as I came across them.

not my turn - in fact, no turns have been taken. i joined the game and wrote a message. it's been, I dunno, between 1-2 hours and on my My Games list it has the message flag, and there's no public message in the game.

found another one, msg icons appeared but no public msg in team game.

there's possibly another one (http://www.wargear.net/games/view/24910), i didn't get an email about a PM. it's not my turn, so I'll stay out until you can check it just in case.

Anyone tested anything with Deleted messages? Perhaps there were message but the player Deleted them and then the flag thingies don't get updated.

At least I got the Flag on my Games List but no blinking one in the actual game.

Not sure, I can play around with it more later tonight probably if no one else has. Haven't seen/found just the Flashing message in the game but nothing on the Games List yet.

Did you fix it by not allowing Delete? 

When I click Delete here ( http://www.wargear.net/games/view/25440 ), nothing happens other than the message area blips (perhaps refreshes?  but the message is still there).

And I guess I would be surprised if it was the cause of all the problems.  asm's first two examples had new messages but no new icons, and I still haven't seen the Flashing icon but no icon on the Games List.  I do think there's something around Start of Game resetting something though, because I think that icon re-showing up is fairly common.
