i.e. Could you have a 21 which was a 21x21 board with the same sort of rules (scaled up for # territories to win).
Yes you could.
Ooooh, that could be fun!
I think the biggest flaw in seven now is that the starting position is often very unfair. I think if you made the board bigger it would be less likely to start as unfair, and you could add some strategic neutrals to make it more fair without making as big a % of the board neutral, so as to not slow it down so much.
Anyway, I may try to do this at some distant future day, but please if someone else is interested, go for it.
I think maybe 21x21 might be overkill. Maybe 17x17? or even 13x13 (not sure if having a prime dimension is important).
Semi-prime is probably sufficient.

Hah!
Agree that 21x21 would be overkill but bigger sounds fun.
I doubt that the dimension plays a roll in the game other than it probably has to be a minimum size so that there's enough randomness in the initial distribution that you get areas that are propagatable (word I just made up). I'm a big fan of the idea of expanding the game, and I'd also be interested in seeing if someone can fix the graphics enough to make the square activation a little easier to understand (that portion of the game seems to be the most confusing for people).
BTF, are you thinking maybe of 10?

OP was talking about 7:
It also does not need to be square nor do you need all internal squares to be active.
Non-square sounds fun.
How about more than 2 players?

GAK!! Yes, I was. Playing lots of games of 10 right now, so it was on my mind. My mistake.

More than 2 players is doable too if you set the win condition correctly. A 3 player version could be cool.
I would love to help test a 3-4 (or more) player game if someone gets that going!
How about a design like marble solitaire?
