Even the "fixed" version doesn't seem to be completely balanced. While it does allow more chances for the first player to make a mistake to lose the game. The fortifying can take a lot to get used to. I suggest anyone that wants to try this board watch multiple replays of existing games first.

Having tried the new "all units in the corners" version, I'm editing my review off that one.

It's not Risk. It's not like Risk. This isn't a probability-based game with odds, luck, or anything of the sort. It's skill, pure and simple, and if you're playing against someone with more experience on the board than you, you will probably lose. It's very good at that.

Whether you're into that or not is, of course, up to you.

I reserve the right to alter this review as I play more games on the new version.

This has to be one of the strangest designs that probably just needs a small tweak to actually be evened out. As yertle points out there is an issue with it.

The puzzle is excellent and it has been a challenge to attempt to validate that Black (player 1) has an advantage over White (player 2), but I believe (and think it has been proven) that Black does have an advantage in which he can either win (easily unless White knows the 1-2 move sequence to prevent him from a quick win) or force a stalemate. With no luck of dice this indicates a broken board and I don't recommend anyone playing it that hasn't read the forum thread in regards to the board and accepts the possibility that as White you simply cannot win.
I do look forward to re-reviewing once the board is fixed.

I haven't had this much fun with a puzzle since college. This map is NOT balanced in the classic sense, but the struggle to prove a winning solultion for Black is frankly more fun than a balanced game anyhow.
