A game I had open and people joining seems to have vanished, is there some sort of timer that closes it after awhile? It was getting close to full.

Yes, after 30 days games disappear if they haven't completely filled up. Of course, no time limit if they get started.

When did that become a thing? I recall a lightning game someone had created on the day they joined and then never returned. I had to write Tom to ask to take it down because I was tired of looking at it over a month later.

Not to be a geezer - but it wasn't *always* a thing - I remember when tom put it into place early on - sometimes things goof up though and there might have been a game that didn't delete as it wasn't supposed to.

Off Topic!Its a difficult balance. Wait long enough to get the players.. but if you get a load of 1000's newbies join up.. buy the time the game starts they've probably forgotten about the site!
Its a bit hard getting into this site if you don't have a few weeks patience to begin with!
