hi all
The game joining page has been updated. It now splits out the realtime from the daily turn based games so you can quickly and easily join realtime games when you want to. In addition some quick filters have been added allowing you to view only those games that you are interested in.
At the top of the page is a count of the number of games that are open for joining.
As usual any problems please let me know.
ps - you may need to refresh your browser (F5) to get the new stylesheet.
not sure if i like them up there. might it look better if you had another 'fake tab' to the right of the 'create game' tab that had that same info?
BTW, haven't been to the join game page in forever, but like the idea.
BIG fan of the game picker. Design looks good, and it's easier to hunt for games than the normal home board is.
Agreed, i think the only other thing that might be added to the join page is when filtering to daily game types then have a subselect to be able to sort by time (1,2,3days,week)
I cannot get any games up. I just hit select all on eac choice so i could see all games. It didn't work.
Is there a way I can set my join page so that it is like the original version?
Isn't the "Home" tab on the top of the screen the same as it always has been?
You only get to the new screen by clicking the new game counters?
Timmy - if there's a problem with the new page you can go to http://www.wargear.net/games/list/open which is the original page.
What browser / operating system are you running? I've tested in IE7+, FF and Chrome.

It's when you click on either the game counters or the 'Join Game' tab.

You know....I've been playing here for coming up on 2 years...never ONCE have I pressed the Join Game tab. I can honestly say I've never even read the title on the tab.
much better tom. tho at some point we should prolly do a revamp on the color schema ;^)
I just tried it again and it seems to be working fine. At home I have a mac (where it works) at work its a PC, I don't know what software it runs on.
If it's IE6 it probably won't work... there again most of the site won't work on IE6. I've put some IE6 code detection in there to fail back to the old version, that may help.

I've added this bit.

Out of interest how do you usually join new games?

I go to the Home tab, and choose open games from that page.
I would always get frustrated because it doesn't show ALL open games, but I just assumed it was a space issue, so I learned to use the pulldown for the board chooser to narrow the selections and find games that way.

To get more than the default 15 games you can set this as a preference under http://www.wargear.net/settings/preferences (Open Games)
As someone who works in software development, you'd think that it would be more intuitive for me to talk to the developer to find out how to maximize the functionality of their program....
k so there is a mismatch; currently there are 12 games available on the list (which includes 2 simul + 2 Dev games) and 0 realtime games.
the counter says 10 and a red box.
does it not include Dev games? thats fine if that's the case, just curious.
also, might want to add a bit of logic to display a zero when none available...
