What's the consensus on this? On the one hand it supports not revealing secret tactics which I think is a good thing - on the other it helps transparency and for players to find out what happened.
No hesitation here in my mind. Transparency (and game analysis) is much more important than keeping tactics secret.

I love full fog games, I love even more watching it back afterwards. If I couldn't watch it back, i'd never be able to learn from my mistakes.

I'm +1 for the transparency and analysis offered by the history. And it would be fun to show my friends at which turn I think I started winning.
Would it be possible to have the history level adjustable like fog is? Folks who want to keep their amazing tactics secret can decide to only join games where the history is set to hide.
+1 Everyone.

I think if a player takes the time to look thru history afterward, kudos to him/her for picking up on winning tactics and learning from this. Most players don't take the time. The only downside I see is having to store all such history in the database.
In favor of history.
Not me!
Just kidding -
ok by me

Yep.
Yes, I'm pro-history. Especially if it's an option at game creation, but even if not.
I'm totally behind this.
totally add the history.

Just adding some more of my anecdotal evidence in support of enabling game history. I'm in a lot of games, and sometimes, especially early in a game, I can lose the narrative. What I was attempting to accomplish, who I'm attacking, etc.
If there is no fog, I could just take a screen shot of the board after every person's turn. If the information is available to me then why should the board hide it?
Just to be clear - this isn't about disabling the 'Hide Board History' rule - it's just about whether history is visible or not after the game is finished when this setting is used.
Anyway, the clear message is everyone wants it visible, thanks!
Yeah, it would be a bit sneaky to be able to hide it imo.. and to little benefit. It would make cheating easier too.
Another reason in favor not mentioned (though inferred) but very important is, I think it raises the competition level of all players, that is those that want to win a game every now and then. ha ha
I like revealing the history after the game for all reasons already mentioned. It's good.
The purpose of the hide history has more to do with hiding information during the game. This is off-topic, but I'd like to see this enforced more strongly. "Hide history" is all about not allowing players to see things that happen in between moves by combing the history. But there are multiple leaks that let information through.
