Would it be possible to have a formal Enhancements List posted somewhere?  I'm thinking it would include the status of the enhancement, link to a forum thread and maybe priority (determined by voting, etc.?).

I think the forum threads are nice for discussing ideas, but it is tough for me to see all the ideas at a glance and know when things have been implemented.

I agree it's getting tough to keep track of.  I had thought about posting my list of outstanding issues/suggestions on tom's My ToDo List in the near future, just to summarize the week.  Although it would be nice to see the existing threads updated (not sure what all Toaster can do as far as editing).

Polls/Voting would be cool too, as far as a list outside the forums though I'm unsure, because then you have a bunch of threads to discuss the list (although one thread with multiple multiple ideas flowing through would be tough to follow too).  The Announcement forum has been updated a couple times, but I think even a couple things are slipping through there or possibly something things are just in a "in progress" stage.

Changes to a project can usually be shoehorned into four categories:

    1. Bug fixes. Not votable, highest priority. Non-working functionality trumps future extended functionality. Not normally listed on a regular public todo list unless it's an extensive intractable bug that's been around awhile.

    2. Trivial feature. Things like changing the background color of the forum to black instead of white, or changing the tabs to be rounded at the top. Not votable, no priority. It's either done or it's not, depending on whether tom thinks it's a good idea or not. Not worth putting in a todo list because it would take almost as much time to add it to the list than it would be to change it. (Note a todo list is not the changelog)

    3. Normal features. Everything that isn't one of the other 3 categories. Not usually worth a formal vote because this is the largest category, you would wind up with a few votes each for the 400 things you want to add/change. Priority normal and usually dependent on what tom feels like working on at any given point.

    4. Major additions. This is the category that can benefit from voting. Things like a Simultaneous Play option, Team or Clan system, board review system, etc.

If this forum has the ability to sticky threads, I would recommend setting up the following threads in the Suggestion Forum:

One thread for each major area of the site: Forums, Board Designer, Flash Player, Rankings, Overall User Interface, Profile/Friends/Enemy. maybe a bit of tweaking but you get the idea. These would be the threads for Normal features.

One thread for Trivial changes, regardless of where on the site it is.

One thread each for Major Improvements, as well as one thread for Major Improvement Voting.

Finally, there is a standardized type of voting (I forget the name) for large development projects. Basically everyone gets a set number of votes, say a dozen. They then have to allocate these votes to the limited set of Major Improvements. So if you REALLY wanted a Simultaneous Play option over all others, you could give it all 12.

To really get the voting to work, you need to get as many people as possible to assign votes. It doesn't need to be too formal, just a post per person in the voting thread indicating your preferences.

If you do this you might find (for example, and I suspect this would be true) that most people could care less about a Simultaneous Play system and would rather have, say, a comprehensive Statistical Analysis section added.

I forgot a key point about the voting system. You start off with as many Major Improvements as you can possibly think of to vote on. After a week of voting, you take the top 5 and re-vote. After another week, you have a winner.

That doesn't mean that the loser things never get added, it just means that the winning thing gets added FIRST.

Great ideas!  I was actually hoping the list(s) would be a part of the forums (maybe a sticky where the first post is kept updated by an admin).

Thanks IRoll11s that pretty much sums up exactly the process I have been going through when prioritising stuff. I've added a bunch of stickies and a thread for you guys to vote on the next major enhancements to add.
