When opening a tournament invite with a large number of invitees (current example: http://www.wargear.net/tournaments/view/2483) in the FireFox browser, the memory consumption and CPU of my machine gets pegged, and will often crash the page.
The problem looks to be the Player Profile Images are taking forever to load.
The website header is displayed fine, the joined players list is shown, and even the boxes with all the invitees names in it loads and is displayed. But the profile images are not fully loaded.
This doesn't ever seem to happen on tourneys where only a few people are invited, so it looks to be tied to the number of player images being loaded.
Example: http://www.wargear.net/tournaments/view/2468 has no problems.
I wonder if the images are being resized to be displayed. Maybe that takes a lot of CPU, especially if the images are large to begin with. If this is the problem, wargear could create and store thumbnail versions of the images on the server, and then they don't need to be computed on the fly by the client.
I've had the same issue with Firefox in this kind of situation.
Ozy - I'd agree with you if it wasn't Firefox specific. I don't see the same problem if/when I switch to Chrome or Safari (I don't normally use them, I just tested with them).
I'd think that the even easier fix would be to modify the tourney pages so that when we load them we don't display the player icons at all for people who haven't accepted the tourney.
@tom: This topic has been brought up several times now.
Here: http://www.wargear.net/forum/showthread/4822/Minor_modification_to_open_tournaments ; you said that you will look into it.
This really does need a fix. Way too many are facing this problem.
To repeat the possible solutions from the above linked thread:
1) Only load player names (and not player avatars/images) for invited players in tournaments.
2) Have invited players in a separate tab.
Thanks all - I've made a small update to fix this issue - if >100 players are invited then it doesn't show their profile pics.
Thanks Tom! That is much appreciated!
Nice! I was waiting for a tournament page to load just now, and then realized it had already finished milliseconds after opening.
Thanks Tom!!!
Thanks Tom!!
Thanks!
