On my test PC it works when I turn off the Chat Bar - note there are two chat settings, you need this one: This option allows you to disable the chat bar

This chat feature is amazing, tom!

I think the only thing I find sometimes inconvenient is when I am taking a turn, working on the right side of the board, and the list of new players online pops up and I end up chatting with some stranger instead of transferring my armies...
what if the notifcations that are always popping up were limited to people we have marked as friends?

Sorry, can't be done - you can choose to turn off that feature entirely but that's about it (it's on the settings page).

Out of curiosity...mind sharing what kind of hardware you're running?
Always curious what the backend of this site runs on.

Curious, when chat is 'minimized' (i.e. closed down so all you can see is the talk bubble), does the talk bubble change to indicate that someone sent you a message?
