Hey Tom,
Is it possible to have a pop-up come up once people launch a map that would show those players who have surrendered or have asked to terminate the game? Kind of like the one that pops up when you have cards to turn in. Would make it easier for those players who want to surrender on large player games to give up the ghost. Or if people have asked to terminate a game it would get voted on quicker. Just a thought.

That's a good thought.
Why would this be helpful? You would find these things out when it is your turn. The request to terminate shows up in the game info or could be posted in in-game messages if it's that important. I guess my question is.. What's the rush?
the request shows up where you can see it when you launch the player?
not if you skip the info page and go right to the map via those nifty little shortcut box thingys.... what do you call that symbol??? I sound Super Wicked Smart!
or the 'its your turn' link. i tend not to open up the game unless it's my turn or there's a message. so unless it's announced in one of those two ways, i'm not going to see one.

No rush, but this is the suggestion box area. That is why I posted it here. Just another way to make it easier. I was just in a game where one guy wanted to surrender, but no one voted for it. No one killed him either so we had to wait a number of days for him to finally get booted. That is the only reason for the thought.
I like the idea.

What I meant by asking "what's the rush?" is "What does it matter that players surrender or are booted?" Booting might take a couple days, but ..so be it. Game Over, you win (in a two player game). In these two player games, I don't see the point in getting a notice. You get an growl or e-mail notifying you of your turn anyways, and if you're paying attention you can see and accept the surrender. I don't even see where time is saved. Besides, surrenders in two player games really should be instantaneous and require no acceptance anyways. This has been discussed recently in another thread.
In games with more than two players, I don't like to accept surrenders. Often they put certain players at an advantage (for instance by creating a protective neutral wall around a continental bonus). I'd rather see the player booted. What I don't really care for is when a player who is doomed decides to take someone down along with them. Regardless, surrender notices fall on deaf ears when I'm in the game.
A much better solution is to have a Surrender/Boot Bot. Its mildly aggressive play will emulate the play of a fair to poor player, which will make it more or less indifferently fair to all. Also, a bot moves instantaneously so the tempo of the game will move at the same speed that it does when a the player surrenders. There is no waiting for bot play.

-1. Seems like redundant clutter and not forward-looking, but maybe I just don't understand.

Why not? Me five.
It may be redundant, but a surrender comes up so infrequently that it would be nice to see an attention grabber.
Added as a feature request.

I've surrendered in a couple games, and posted multiple messages on the game page, and nothing is done about it. Standard members don't have much of a reason to scroll down past the board, as there isn't really anything of any important nature down there.
It would be extremely helpful if something got posted, as I don't realize that others have surrendered, either.
I saw this today:
all i can say is...wow. well done tom!
very nice!
Yeah!
