I thought maybe it was the weird board game, but then I remembered that I played a few test games of this a few months ago, so unless something has changed since then...

I also tried locking the starting bonus to the seat position & adding starting bonus for some of the seats, some maybe that is related?

Nope.  Still doesn't work, the only difference is now when I launch the player it says 'Player data does not tally with number of players'  (and this text message runs right off the dialog window!). 

I even tried to 'restart' the game, and it is the same thing.

Sorry I meant to say you'll need to terminate and then restart the game completely, then it will work.
