Is the Average Game Size stat is erroneously calculated? Consider Yertle's stats:
Win Ratio | 46.4% (334/720 games) |
Players Played | 2826 |
Players Eliminated | 755 |
Average game size | 3.9 |
Players played / Average game size = 2826/3.9 = ~274, which is very close to the number of games played, so I assume that the AGS is calculated by dividing players played by the # of games played.
But really the Average Game Size should be = (Players played) + (# games played) / (# games played). # of games played needs to be added to the numerator to include the fact that Yertle played in the games. I get an AGS of 4.9 when I do this.
Everything you've said is right (the 724 instead of 720 is just due to rounding at the tenths). So, it is either miscalculated... OR "Players played" could be a misnomer. It might be including the player in the count with each game.
Easy enough to fix. depending on the nature of the error, do one of the following:
The number of eliminated players seems wacky too (it's fine with Yertle, wrong with me. But I can't paste a copy of my stats).
What's wrong with it?

Players played is incremented by the number of players in the game (including the player himself). So I have updated so the number of games played is subtracted from this figure to give the correct number.
Average game size is correct I believe (it's the sum of all the number of players in each game played divided by the number of games).

2 Player Games |
62.5% (386/618 games) |
3 Player Games | 49.2% (65/132 games) |
4 Player Games | 34.2% (52/152 games) |
5 Player Games | 22.1% (15/68 games) |
6 Player Games | 24.4% (22/90 games) |
7 Player Games | 19.0% (4/21 games) |
8 Player Games | 20.0% (7/35 games) |
9 Player Games | 12.5% (1/8 games) |
10 Player Games | 16.7% (2/12 games) |
(from my stats)
So I calculate the eliminated players like this 386*1+65*2+52*3+15*4+22*5+4*6+7*7+1*8+2*9 which gives 941 eliminated players. This is very far from 676 that you find below.
Overall Stats | |
---|---|
Ranking Score | 2027 |
H Rating | 62% |
Win Ratio | 48.8% (554/1136 games) |
Players Played | 2603 |
Players Eliminated | 676 |
Average game size | 3.3 |
Last Game Played | 16th Feb 2011 14:39 |
You can get eliminations even if you lost the game and the winner doesn't necessarily get all the eliminations in a game. In a 10 player game if I eliminate 8 players but then am eliminated by Player B, then I get +8 eliminations on my stat (and +1 loss) while Player B gets +1 elimination (and +1 win).
Also factor in Boots/Surrenders and there will definitely be a difference between the numbers calculated from the Players Per Game stats and your Players Eliminated stat.

Ah... Thanx. I did not understand it that way. Makes sense. I reckon I never paid much attention to that stat, which doesn't mean much to me.

But what you seem to have is the sum of all the opponents (players played) divided by the number of games.
Edit: It looks like you have fixed this..
