I have just released four new version of seven which can be accessed through the scenario start drop-down box. Here is a brief description of each:
Version 2: Rings,
The game starts with randomly placed white and black tokens in the shape of 4 rings (one in each corner). This variation offers a focus on securing two rings early or fighting for two rings.
Version 3: Diagonals,
The game starts with three diagonals set as neutral and the rest randomly placed. This variation offers a slightly nuanced game-play as diagonal blocking is focused upon.
Version 4: Rows
The game starts with black owning the top row and white owning the bottom row. Both rows 2 and rows 6 are mainly neutral and it is setup so that both players must attack into the center 3 rows. The center is randomly setup and this offers fast transport and lots of line breaking ability. This version also has the least randomness to it's starts so should be the least varying of the scenarios in terms of initial setup.
Version 5: Bases
The game starts with each player owning the six tokens connected to there starting token (in a triangle shape). The main diagonal is set to always be neutral. The game-play on is this version is like version 3, but there is more security in protecting one base.
I hope that those who like this sort of game have good starts and enjoy the new versions.
Version 1 doesn't have the side bar info panel, is that intended?
I opened a table of each, links below:
Version 2:

Additionally, all of the fixes that were suggested should be in place.
Number of sides on attacker's / defender's dice : 1
Black Start and White Start correctly labeled
Rules reads only attack abandoned territories
Detailed description available for those who want to read it
Scenarios have an image that shows the fixed (non random) territories
Please let me know if I missed something.

hmm, what do you mean? It should be exactly as it was.
Starting a 12 man RR of version 3, which was my favorite from testing, though I really liked the others, and may start tournaments of those if there is interest. As Alpha pointed out, each scenario has a different flavor to it.
whoops. I'm excited.

We are all jacked up!

Hopefully, this is now fixed, and I think this could be counted as a new bug, will report.

No idea what would have caused this (all that was wrong with version 1 was the the images for the board and fill were not correct).
i don't think this board means what you think...;^)
the setup i think you described isn't what is happening. the wedges at each person's stack isn't always completely their own. for example take a look at my & darklord's game (http://www.wargear.net/games/player/33799). all of my wedge plus most of his i controlled from the outset.
Darklord isn't attacking out his first turn. He did the same thing (move and complaint) in my game. I can't justify either of these things.
yeah noticed that. but that wasn't my point, mine was more of a question i guess to find out if those wedges were supposed to be totally owned by a player or if they were supposed to be random?

Version 3 is only suppose to have neutral diagonals, your game started as it should.
Version 5 is suppose to have bases which is the scenario you are describing. The thumbnail image for each version shows the scenario start.
gotcha. thx
Every time I give this game a try it's a disaster..

I have no play. I've lost right out of the blocks, right?
Are you aware you can return to attack from fortify?
It doesn't look like you attacked - only fortified.
Right.
..but where can I attack? -- I just finished my turn.
I've been boxed in on the first turn -- There's nowhere to attack to as far as I can tell.
