Maybe this is a little too much, but I've thinking about a new tournament style where the players remain constant in every game, but the board changes every round. Take the Mario maps for instance. You could have a 4 player tournament (small I know), but as the tournament progresses the map would change rather than the opponents to see who's best at playing all of those maps as a collective.

I know you can do a string of public games, but it doesn't have the same feel -- different people join different games (maybe due to non-premium members that reached their game limit, or people not liking a particular map) and there's no reward for winning.

It just might be nice to have a tournament to see who's best at a variety of different maps rather than one single map.

How would you score it? 

Using our current systems could work (elimination, round robin, swiss)

To be honest, I'm not sure how the swiss system works. And I suppose that elimination wouldn't work if you're wanting to play the same opponents every time. So I guess that only leaves round robin, which I think would work very well. The player who wins the most amount of games would be the winner. 

Another idea...it doesn't necessarily have to be only one game per board, it could be any number I suppose.

Elimination would work: as long as your okay with the first round on a board1, second round on board2 third round on board3 etc. 

Those that can win a game of spy vs. spy get a chance to play some Balance, and those that win can compete on WGWF

Swiss system pairs opponents based on their score (or standing - not exactly sure) so you don't play everyone but are likely to play someone at your level.  (this could work too)

I like the idea of being able to assign boards to tournament rounds.

This may be fun for games with 8+ players - then have a tourney where the people play each other each game. (All the players in the same game at each round)

For example you create an 8(?) person tournament where they play each other on 7(?) different games.  You would set-up the different games in advance - maybe same board with different fog levels/scenarios or 4 on one map and 3 on another or all different boards.

i think we'd discussed this in the past, more of a round robin kinda feel, but players stay the same, boards rotate thru. not sure what ever came of that discussion. might be useful to dig it up and review it for pitfalls that've already been vetted. 

I searched for a topic before posting this thread, because I assumed I couldn't be the first to think of this. Couldn't find anything though so I went ahead. I searched for things like "new tournament", "tournament style", etc. If you or anyone else can find anything that would be great though
