If you defeat someone do you get more points opposed to them surrendering? Either way you win, but what is the difference in points, if any?

In reverse if you surrender do you stand to lose less points then you would if your opponent defeats you? A lot of people will surrender if they think they are going to lose. Most games I've won is from surrenders, not actual defeats, and I was wondering the difference in the two.

No difference with respect to points, or anything else.
