I don't know if it's already been brought up, admittely I haven't look through the feature request sheet, but is the idea out there for team rankings?  I have a friend IRL, hard to believe I know, that I usually play with on team maps.  I know that we win more than we lose, but I'd like to know what kind of ranking we would have if there was a ranking system.  We could even go with a ladder system, but personally I'm not to fond of the ladder system for some reason.

I guess it would have to be an individual ranking in team games ? Teams are indeed not always the same.

Would league play be private?

you should be able to find a person to team with.
have a separate page for league games,and when enough teams join to fill that league you could play the teams in that league. if it gets big enough you could expand it to league playoffs ect.
the hard part would be to determine wich map to play.
it probally is not a good way to rank teams per say but it would be alot of fun.

Not sure I understand the difference here between a league and a tournament.

I would say that you should be able to choose a bunch of different maps to play, or just have it be like the current system where you setup team games and then wait for other teams to join and have all maps be available to play in that league.

i was thinking having multiple boards so that you can really test teams ability to work together on boards you may not play as much or be as good at. i think in the long run it would show who really is the top team on wargear.

You could also setup a system like they have on World of Warcraft, former addict, and let you be a part of one team of each size.  So you could be part of a 2 man, 3 man, etc.
