Pangea: Survival of the Fittest

EACH PLAYER REPRESENTS A SPECIES OF ANIMALS, ADAPTING TO AND CONQUERING THE WILDS OF PANGEA. MAMMALS, AMPHIBIANS, REPTILES, BUGS AND BIRDS MUST EACH LEARN TO SURVIVE AND FLOURISH IN THE VARIOUS TERRAINS WHILE DEFENDING THEMSELVES FROM NEIGHBOURING SPECIES. LIFE BEGINS IN THE RIVER, WHERE EACH ANIMAL MUST VENTURE INLAND TO INCREASE THEIR NUMBERS AND REACH THEIR POTENTIAL.

BESIDES THE RIVER, THE CONTINENT HAS 5 DISTINCT TYPES OF TERRAIN. DESERT (YELLOW), HILLS (LIGHT GREEN HEX), FOREST (DARK GREEN HEX), SWAMP (BROWN HEX) AND MOUNTAINS (GREY HEX) - EACH OF THESE IS ALSO REPRESENTED IN EACH PLAYERS EVOLUTION CHART. THESE ARE SPREAD AROUND THE BOARD AND HAVE EACH ANIMAL'S NAME AND A SMALL ILLUSTRATION AS WELL AS TEN HEXES ARRANGED IN TWO ROWS OF 5. THE HEXES REPRESENT AN ANIMAL'S ABILITY TO FLOURISH IN A PARTICULAR REGION. THERE ARE 2 HEXES OF EACH TERRAIN TYPE - REPRESENTING THE "ADAPTATION" AND "MASTERING" OF EACH TYPE OF TERRAIN. FOR EXAMPLE, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT EACH DESERT TERRAIN HEX ON THE CONTINENT COULD BE WORTH +2 BONUS UNITS FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE BOTH DESERT HEXES OCCUPIED ON YOUR EVO CHART. IF YOU HAVE ONLY THE FIRST DESERT HEX YOU WILL GET +1 UNIT FOR EACH DESERT HEX ON THE CONTINENT YOU POSSESS. SO IF YOU HAVE NEITHER DESERT HEX ON YOUR EVO CHART, YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE ANY BONUS FOR OCCUPYING DESERT HEX'S ON THE MAINLAND.

UNDOUBTEDLY, CONFLICT WILL QUICKLY ARISE AND SPECIES WILL FIGHT TOOTH AND CLAW FOR THEIR SURVIVAL. SHOULD ANY PLAYER BE WIPED COMPLETELY OFF THE CONTINENT AFTER VENTURING OUT OF THE RIVER, THEY ARE OUT OF THE GAME. EACH TERRAIN HEX (NOT INCLUDING RIVERS OR EVO CHARTS) IS COUNTED AS A CAPITAL CITY.

SIMULGEAR VERSION

TURNS START IN ORDER OF LEAST UNITS TO MOST. BATTLES BEGIN AT 100% KILL RATE FOR ALL UNITS, BUT WITH EACH CUMULATIVE ATTACK, A -5& FATIGUE IS ADDED TO TO THE ATTACKERS RATE. THE MORE ATTACKS YOU MAKE, THE WORSE CHANCE THE LATER ONES WILL HAVE TO SCORE A HIT. NO SPACE ON THE RIVER IS ATTCKABLE, IT IS ONLY A PLACE FOR YOU TO MAKE ATTACKS ONTO DRY (OR SWAMPY) LAND.
