“Honors” fall into 3 general categories:
Honors can also be divided by the type of interaction with WarGear that is required to earn them.
Honors could be identified with their difficulty of earning:
Community Bronze → Make your first post. Upload a profile image.
Community Silver → Make 100 posts. 1 year Member. Buy a gift subscription. Become a premium member.
Community Gold → Make 1000 posts. 5 year Member
Community Platinum → 10 year member.
Top ten champion points (at any point)
Top ten Global Ranking (at any point)
Holds/Held top ranking on 5 boards, 10 boards, 20 boards etc.
Don't know how hard it is, but you could have moving achievements:
Most dangerous player (most kills at any given point) that changes when another more dangerous player comes along
or
Highest (name stat) at any given moment
Score improvement achievements - like a +500 score! or something
Most Stealthy (most kills on fog boards) Most Deadly (Raptor already mentioned) Best Assassin (most kills on assassin boards) Best Solo player Darkest Designer Most unconventional Most unpredictable
Less constructive (but still interesting): Public enemy #1 (most “enemy” designations) Most conniving (popular vote?) Threadlocker (most # of locked threads)
To sort of go along with Ratsy's “moving achievements” I'd like to see an enhancement of the ranking boards.
Top player in the last Month/6 Months/Year is obvious, but I'd like to see a way to rank players based on “groupings” of boards - e.g. best Simulgear, best Duel, best Team Player, best on Sports Themed boards, best lightning player, best on Yertlle boards, etc…
A top 10 list for each of these and a “badge” for the top one somewhere -
I'd like to see a third category of personal achievements:
highest GR ever
highest points ever
most #1 board rankings
highest rank on 'X' board
* I feel it's better to have many small attainable rewards rather than a few with lots of space in between.
* Some achievements should not be tied to being 'good' at wargear. This will allow everyone (even not so great players) to have something to strive for.
* Achievements could be used as a way to simplify the site for newbies. i.e. Once reaching achievement X,Y, or Z, yellow difficulty maps become available, similar for red difficulty. This is called 'Progressive Disclosure' - from the wikipedia article: “By disclosing information progressively, you reveal only the essentials and help the user manage the complexity of feature-rich sites or applications.” This is a more broad topic than just achievements, and could be discussed separately.
* Achievements could represent a general achievement, that has a standard title, that gets modified by bronze, silver, gold, platinum as the N goes up.
Here are some examples of achievements that could be achievable by average players:
* Achievements for playing N games/turns. - adversary * Achievements for eliminating N players - executioner * N Posts - communicator * Vote in a mapmaking competition - Suffragist * Publish a map - designer * Finish a game on N different boards - completist
This way even players who are not that great can get 'rewarded' for time spent playing.
Obviously there would also be achievements for skill in wargear: *Achievements for ranks, champion points, etc. - warlord
Some things to think about: http://gamification.org/wiki/Game_Design#Achievements http://gamification.org/wiki/Game_Design#Discovery - This ties in to having unlockable areas on wargear. http://gamification.org/wiki/Game_Design#Progression - Player profile page, should show what you need to do to achieve next achievement/title. http://gamification.org/wiki/Game_Design#Status - Titles/achievements should be displayed next to player name in as many contexts as possible.
