hi all
Just a quick note - if you think you've found a bug in the way a game is playing, it's a big help if you stop playing straight away so I can load the game up and immediately see the problem. I'll need to know the gameid which is the number at the end of the URL when the Player is loaded.
It's usually worth reloading the Player to see if that fixes the problem because there will be occasional network related communication problems which will result in the Player getting out of sync with the server but it's still worth reporting what happened.
Thanks for your help in this, due to the huge number of possible rule and board variations there are inevitably a few bugs out there so I apologize for this but I should be able to get them fixed promptly once you let me know about them.
cheers
Tom
Ahhhh fresh :)...now should I break out my list :P
W00t! No more bugs to fix :D
We've been dancing around this in other threads (ie I have reported it, but did such a poor job giving details that it was ignored). It involves the embedding of images into posts. Below, inside of brackets I typed "gamethumb=19526 turnid=284". Turn 284 is the starting position.
The thumb does not refer to turn 284, but rather to the current position. In the other thread, 11s found the error using the view source of the generated HTML. For reference see post 24 of http://www.wargear.net/forum/showthread/665p2/Spy_v_Spy
11s notes:
Yeah, actual bug. Image links to:
Should link to:
Conclusion: somewhere in your html generating code, you should change "?" to "&".
In games with light fog is there any reason why you cannot see the status of an opponent? There are sometimes when I would like to see if someone was booted or if they were eliminated; there is no problem looking at the map and seeing that they are gone.

And to expand on this, games with Light fog should have the Player Bar (bar on Games Lists) updated when a player has been booted or eliminated since that information is known by looking at the board.
Thanks Yertle, I meant to throw that in there.
What happened to all the territories and borders I made?? They just disappeared.

There were thousands of view borders -- I was creating a fog lift for each territory. Now, even the territories are gone. Did I break it?
try exiting and returning and waiting (no clicking) for the board to fully load. This problem has occurred for me a couple of times and being patient after the load fixed it. Maybe it is caused by a server communication break or just by boards with lots of borders loading slowly.
I'm going to need to restore from backup. This may be related to the problem Cramchakle had with very large numbers of borders. What seems to be happening is the XML encoder takes so long to encode the XML it causes timeouts to occur.
Thanks! So you're talking about my "last" save? All the data didn't make it, so the whole thing blew up? ..or something like that?
Your plate is full enough to have to be bothered with this kind of stuff. Could the problem be avoided in the future if I occasionally made a copy (back-up) of the entire game every once in a while?
I think what happens is the board save fails. The save code currently deletes the existing board data then writes over the new data. If for some reason that process falls over halfway then you end up losing data. I need to find a better way to do it ideally and also set up a way for designers to back up and restore data.
It's easy to recover from backups but they only run every 24 hours (at 5am EST)so I'll do that shortly.
tom -- I don't know if you've gotten around to it yet, but the territories are still gone..
Yep looking at this now also.
Sorry this is not in the backup either - did you create it that day or over a period of days? I can't find any record of the territories over the last 4 days backups.
As per Cram's post I am updating the board save code to make this less likely to happen in future + adding board export / import facility to allow you to make your own backups.
pretty much all that day ..at least the territories and the borders. They should be somewhere. If you wouldn't mind, please check again. It was at least a few hours of tedious mousing (actually, I used a bamboo pad).
If you don't find it, you can buy me a beer someday ..to replace the one I'm crying in right now.
Ok this time I started to back up my work on another board anticipating a crash..
My last backup loads fine..

Then I added a few more hundred territories and maybe a thousand more view only borders Sat (~3:45 pm EST)..

..and Kaplooey!
Also the game that I had attached won’t load:
Yep it's the same problem as Cram had - basically the XML encoder that's built into PHP is very slow so it's actually timing out. I've rolled my own version which is about 20x faster so this should be fixed. I'm just testing out a bunch of other stuff before updating the Live site, there's been a lot of changes recently.
Very cool! I can't wait.
No, ..I really mean it. I can't wait!

It's my turn. I get the standard message saying I have a set, but the board is frozen, I can't even move or close the message box.
