hi all

I'm planning to list all site changes (new features, minor updates and bug fixes) in this thread.

This month has been very busy so there's quite a backlog, The major change was migrating to a new architecture and hosting service which is all now complete. Depending on how the new infrastructure performs over the next month I may or may not make further changes; at the moment it looks like it will not be necessary.

New Features

• I've replaced the old text editor with a new one. You can now upload images or drag and drop them to add them to your chat. You can also paste rows of test from another program and it will keep the line breaks.
• The old Red (You have turns) favicon has been replaced with a number counter which shows you how many turns you have.
• The private messaging To: and Cc: fields now have a player name autocomplete.

Bug fixes

• Fixed the game notification system so the 'Next Turn' button should now work reliably and your game count should be accurate, if not, let me know.
• Fixed the 'New message' notification system. This should also now work reliably, if not let me know.
• Fixed the timezone in game messages which was previously igoring your timezone preference.

Changes

• Cometchat (the old group chat service) has been completely disabled. It was a horror show in terms of it's impact on the servers so that was a big factor. The general feedback was that improving the game chat messaging (in particular the notification system which was not reliable) was preferred. See bug fixes above which have addressed this.
• The log file image preview has been improved - it loads at the correct image size and allows stepping between entries (left / right cursor key)
• Select boxes in the top menu area now auto-apply without having to click the Update button

Also the notifications seem to be working well! I almost can't believe it. ????

By this do you mean the now gone Who's Online / instant messaging box? Do you intend to put a replacement?

Yes that's the one.

Which part did you use? I could easily set up a who's online box and possibly an instant messaging feature.

I used both. But more than chatting, I used Who's Online to tell me when not to start games, when certain griefers hung out here, before you got rid of them. (*thank you!)

Gold outline - Player came online in the last 3 seconds

Changes
Forum search is back. Google site search has been ditched and replaced with native search so it should be a big improvement.

Who's Online has been temporarily disabled as it burned our daily push notification quote, need to re-design.

I don't know how that works, but if the load can be reduced by not updating every second, once every 10 seconds, 30 seconds or even just once per minute would be fine.

It's back up; it's still updated just as regularly, it's just using some caching to avoid the earlier issue!

I've updated the quick reply box so that's a proper text editor as well.

Numbering the icons from left to right, from 1 to 18...

1 - 13: Appear to function.

14: Not sure what this is supposed to do, but it looks like this:

15: Doesn't appear to do anything.

16: Direct picture uploads now? No more third party URLs?

17: Doesn't appear to do anything.

18: Appears to function.

Finally, after typing a colon, neither the right arrow nor the down arrow key immediately work. They resume working after pressing the up or left arrow keys.

14: Text alignment. I fixed the background.

15: Doesn't appear to do anything. If you select a text block then click it adds a link

16: Direct picture uploads now? No more third party URLs? Yes. Also supports drag and drop onto the text area.

17: Doesn't appear to do anything. Clears the formatting of any selected text
