There are some colors that I associate with certain players. That association is usually connected to the boards where I most often encounter those players. So much so that when another player is using that color in a game on that board it causes me to do a double take.
I presume this to be the case with others and interested in knowing the associations. I'll start.
Player/Color/Board
Kwiebs/Pink/European War - I am in a EW game now where another player has pink which prompted this post.
NeoCon/Bright Pink/1790 - One of the benefits of usually being the host is picking your color.
Herr Stamper/Orange/War of the Roses - I might not realize it until the other player makes a mistake that is uncharateristic of Herr Stamper.
There are others but I will leave it at three to get the ball rolling.
Then again, maybe it is just me.
Nah - there are certainly colors I associate with certain players -
Orange --> Kjeld or Eggs
Navy blue --> asm or IRsmart
Yellow --> Oldtimer
Purple --> Should have been me and not weathertop or Nikolai or Aiken
Pink --> smess2
light blue --> j-bomb or Ozy
red --> Shredder
I'm sure there are more -
I would add to your list Amidon:
Orange --> Kjeld or Eggs
Navy blue --> asm or IRsmart
Yellow --> Oldtimer, jvarvoutis
Purple --> Amidon, Weathertop, Nikolai, Aiken, Johasi, Babbalouie
Pink --> smess2, Mad Bomber
light blue --> j-bomb or Ozy
red --> Shredder, Andernut
green --> litotes
Purple seems to be a favorite of many.

there are others as well Wonder Woman, being just one.
... And I *was* the first one of any of the purple lovers here, so... it's mine, all mine, my precious...
I think of BL as yellow, is that wrong?
Among those not mentioned...
Yertle is dark green. So is Coop
Dud is gray
I think we had a hilarious thread on this subject oh... give or take 10 years ago
lime/green is Cona Chris
Bex is yellow
Purple is just plain dangerous
Thingol is always green. Risky is another yellow. Yeah, purple is scary, as is navy, green, red, ... oh, right.
"I think of BL as yellow, is that wrong?"
I think Babba picks purple when possible, with yellow as a fallback. Perhaps he will chime in?
This turned into player specific without saying much about board.
As Thingol correctly pointed out, my go to colour on most boards is green. But there are boards where I don't like the green. On Seven Redux, for example, I choose white, or purple if my opponent has already taken white. I'm also white on Thingol's The Shire. I'm purple on Kjeld's two Pern boards, if I can get it. Blue on Infection and VIKINGR.

He's certainly not always purple against me even on boards where I never pick it.
I did a quick check, the last 14 times he's beaten me on free choice of colour boards he was yellow. (easier to see losses, my wins don't have his colour in the H2H so I'd have to check each one in particular).

This is very true, there are boards that don't have a blue I like. I'll usually pick a gray or brown in that case, depending on the brown available.
I also don't like having concurrent games running on the same board with similar settings where I have the same color. So when I'm doing a spate of 1v1s on a particular board I will pick my three favorite colors and start one game with each of them.
Back on the ToS I thought I was awfully clever to sometimes play as "Cyan Beard" instead of "Blue Beard", and I liked it so much I've stuck with Cyan as my favorite color for the last 15? years.
Aha...it’s your fault then. When I came to the site many years back, cyan was my favorite color, but it seemed I could not get that color in the games I joined, so I gave up and went the lime route instead. 🤪
I customize most if not all of the colors on my boards. I have favorites, and sometimes I have two that I like. For instance with Fall of Rome, I like Dirt or Purply Brown, with Roses I like Thyme and Mocha, with Anarchy I like Maroon and Peachy. Hmm.. so maybe I lean toward the browns.
I was red almost exclusively, 100% on TOS and that followed me here. But I branched out - I had games where I picked non-red and people were attacking "red" thinking it was me ha. Playing games where the colour was tied to the seat position also helped me loosen that requirement (ie. one of my favourite maps, invention).
I still pick red in team-games though. And every boardgame of course.

Interesting, I feel like I think of you as gray.
I too always customized color palettes on my boards.
And I also like using different colors than my usual on Fall of Rome.

Choosing red is interesting. The colour red is precieved as more aggressive.
They did some research on greco-roman wrestling, where one wrestler was always in blue and the other always in red. This was when they were still warned for passivity. Many years ago now, I'm not sure of the current rules, but the point stand - blue was called for passivity more often than red. Just to make sure they took footage of older bouts and graphically changed the wrestler's attire. What happened? The wrestler who now appeared to be blue (but was really red) was called more often for passivity. Clearly the colour itself influenced the judges.
What's the result of a risk game if one player is percieved as more aggressive? Is it an advantage? Is is a disadvantage? Not sure about that one.
Ha, I probably fly under the radar, but love this topic. I almost always choose Brown or Maroon. They're usually open for the taking and don't step on other's toes. I'm playing a tournament with another common brown user (TKDave), and we've mixed up our placements a few times by mistake. (http://www.wargear.net/games/view/797289)

Speaking from experience - it's a disadvantage. No doubt about it.
