Hello: Perhaps the answer is obvious but I am unaware.
How does one advance in rank (ie: private to corporal to sergeant, etc.)?
Is there just one way or a number of ways?

Currently it is based on your CP rank alone and is just a reflection of that. So, the only way to build your rank is to get more CP. But, there has been some talk of a 5 rank system to which Tom put up a parallel ranking system, though it's only in theory and not part of the actual rank determination at the moment. Right now the fastest way is to win games on less popular or new boards.
You need to win enough games to get in the top 10 of any board. The more popular the board the more wins you need. Like right now 1811 on Colossal won't even get you the 1 CP point for being 10th. Where on many boards 1500 will get you 20.
There's also been a lot of talk about calculating CP differently. I think Tom was planning to pilot something, but not sure where we are on that one either.

I play on any field of battle...not just three boards

Rank 1050-1099 means 1 point if you're anywhere in the top-10
1100-1149 means 2 points if you're anywhere in the top-9
1150-1199 means 3 points if you're anywehere in the top-8
1200-1249 4 points if you're top-7
1250-1299 6 points if you're top-6
1300-1349 8 points if you're top-5
1350-1399 10 points if you're top-4
1400-1449 12 points if you're top-3
1450-1499 15 points if you're top-2
1500--> 20 points if you're ranked 1st on a board.
Board ranking is not a guarantee in itself. I have 2109 on Wargear Warfare, but since I'm ranked 21st that gives no CPs.
