    These ads should only pop-up on non-premium members.  They are very annoying and interrupt play.  An incentive to become a paying member would be to have these ads removed.  Chessmaniac.com operates that way.  Something to consider.  My group of friends at work are all in agreement on this.

    Either I'm special or your ads are coming from somewhere else. Wargear is ad-free so far as I can tell.

    yep.  I have never seen an advertisement on wargear.

    Yeah, that happened to me a couple of times. Can be a pain because you usually have to get rid of it manually. Google the trademark on the ads and you can find guides to get rid of it.

    Are you sure the complaint isn't about the new game postings? Those are some sort of pop-up, right? Not exactly ads though :)

    Could be.  They've never bothered me before though.  They don't obstruct the board & you don't have to click them to get rid of them.
