Thats what a turn timer is for. If your mom died, and you need to leave for a week, sorry to hear it, but your game rating should not impede and superseed everyone else. You get the boot. Dont join a game, play 2 days then go on vacation or you will get booted, that is how it should be.
That's just crazy. I could MAYBE see the argument for a Standard player, since it would suck to have 2-3 (or more) of your allotted 10 games get held up for a week due to vacation. But you're a Premium player. If you're tired of waiting, join another game.
EDIT: It's also just bizarre to want to hold people hostage to their computers. I'm going up to Tahoe this weekend; I'm probably going to set a 1- or 2-day vacation so I can play my turns on Monday. Should I never be able to go away for the weekend because my life is WarGear? I'm going to Europe for 10 days in October; should I stop joining games in September so I won't hold anybody up while I'm gone? That would mean I should stop joining tournaments pretty much as of today, just in case any of them take a while to finish. In other words... I should stop playing WarGear so I don't inconvenience you by making you wait a week to take your turn. Suffice it to say I don't think you're going to get a lot of agreement to that around here.

None from me :)
nor me.
I just asked my mom and she said it would be ok for me to take my turn when she dies, ..but then my wife said that I couldn't if she died. ..so I'm on the fence.
..but then I was thinking. How would she know?
I need a vacation....

No agreement!
M57, I like your sense of (sick) humour.

lol! I missed that message!
Yeah, if anything, I think the boot timer should be set for three days instead of two so some of us could actually have a weekend off once in a while.
Seriously - if you're bored and WG isn't giving you enough to do, join more games. I've seen games here last for over a month and a half, especially if there are a ton of players and the board is fairly large (10+ player Antastic! games, for example), so "I'm going to exercise some forethought before I join a game" will only take you so far.
I... can't find anything wrong with this line of reasoning...

You're married and asking this question?!
That's like asking if a tree fell on her flower bed in the woods, would it make a sound? No, but she would. Or you were about to light a joi...cigarette, but hadn't put flame to paper --- she still yells from upstairs to tell you to not do it. Women have that sick otherworldly sense that transcends reality.
Hey, we all agreed on something. Thanks Disco!

I've been advocating this since the boot timer came into practice.
Yeah, I know, and I know the arguments on the other side - you should be able to log in once over the weekend so get over it, not everyone has two-day weekends, let's implement a ridiculously convoluted "pick two days of permanent vacation each week" system, etc. etc. etc.
I just don't see the point of a two day timer, at least the way it's implemented. It suggests that the idea was to accomplish precisely what we're advocating - give people a couple of days of rest - but, instead of that, we get people like me logging in at midnight Friday night/Saturday morning, taking my turns, then getting a couple of boot notices before I wake up on Monday because, hey, guess what, somebody took their turn at 0300 PDT Saturday morning and it was a two-player game.
*sigh*
Yeah, I know - sour grapes, log in on Sunday, use the ample vacation time for something, get over it. Doesn't mean I have to be thrilled about it.

What about some kind of earned extension time credits for timely moves? It would be a use it or lose it kind of a deal where for every 4 hours you better the allotted 48, you get 1 free hour for the next turn. So for instance if you make a move in the first 6 hours of your turn, that's 42/4 and gets you 10.5 extra hours or 58 hours to make your next move..
But this still might not work for Oatworm.. His Friday night moves might not buy him enough time to get through the weekend, so a similar method might be to earn extension time credits that you get to keep (but with a cap). You could get something like 1 hour of credit for every 6 hours you take your turn under the allotted time ..and cap out at something like 24-36 hours. So if you make 3 moves in a given game during the week, and let's just say you made them all at the 10th hour of your turn, that's ((48-10) x 3))/6 = 19 extension hours for the weekend (or whenever you want to spend them). Then let's say over the weekend it takes you 60 hours to take your move. You spend 12 of those 19 and still have 6 going into the next week.
What about a 3 day timer?

What about it?
I am still with you and am too addicted to see how you go a WHOLE weekend without taking a turn.
I also would advocate for a week for the extended timer so someone could be exclusively a weekend player (the opposite of you "only at work" folks).
