I'm still surprised by how much variation in game-play there is on this board. So many strategies come up from player to player and game to game. Extremely well done.
This is one of the most unique boards that i've played.
It takes a whole different strategy and thought process. Looks good plays great. Low unit count with nice border mods. Perfect Dual Board
A great board, lots of good maneuvering like a chess match... the big defense bonus makes choosing when and where to strike a big part of gameplay! While execution of strategy may vary given what opponent does, the general theory and strategy is pretty similar from game to game, so it doesn't have the great replayability that other boards will have. Still, it is a unique 1vs1 that gives a different game experience. Fun look and theme! Highly recommended!
Two player games are notoriously difficult to pull off, but this one does a pretty good job. It's well balanced and, though there are certainly optimum strategies that can be employed, the dice do a decent enough job of keeping you on your toes where the game doesn't immediately degenerate into a series of scripted gambits and feints.
It's not my favorite board in the world, nor am I a huge fan of the game play, but I do respect how well it does what it does. Well done!
Maybe a 10...gotta play it more. I haven't played the board much, but it seems like a solid board that makes great use of low unit count and maneuvering around your opponent, yourself, and the board.
This is definitely one of the boards that I have to think a bit deeper on and plan out my attack (and it's only 2 attacks!) before I make a move. Reading the "scripted battle" rating does make me a bit hesitant (I'm not a fan of that necessarily), but I don't know enough about the board to see it :P
Very nicely done (although it dose lose like a tenth of a star due to the blurry cards, even though they're not used :D), crisp graphics, simplistic yet strategorical in gameplay!
I agree with the comments of everyone that gives this board a ten except I don't like the "fortify to anywhere" (contiguous) rule. I think a limited number of fortifies would make this board even more interesting.
Also, it does appear that over time the correct or best opening sequences will become apparent for those in the know - possibly to the point where the game no longer becomes a game of strategy, but rather a scripted battle that comes down to a few rolls of the dice. But for now this is a wonderful design concept put into action.
I can't think of any way to make it better, so 10 stars.
I agree with the previous reviewers lauding of the simple, strategic gameplay. Things sometimes come down to chance.. but then this is a dice game. The graphical element is brilliant as well, clever use of fill colors.
