I simply love this game. It's a nice break from all the war games with their alliances and strong luck factor. It doesn't take long to play either, both the turns and overall length of the game, which is a great antidote to those interminable Colossal Crusades and the like. Sometimes the endgame does come down to a losing player who can decide who wins by which of the other 2 players he attacks, but that's where you are challenged to avoid those situations or develop good negotiating skills.
However, I have noticed one thing that bothers me about this game. If you attack 3v3, the defender will only lose 2. This seems wrong in a game that says "every attack wins."
As usual, this is one of Ed's designs that takes advantage of WarGear's designer features in a unique and creative way. Play and strategy is highly unconventional. The graphics are well executed.
However, I agree with Black Dog. End-games can too easily be manipulated, hence the poor rating. If you know you are going to lose, in many cases, it's possible for you to "choose" the winner. Nonetheless, I recommend that everyone at least try the board once to get a sense of what's possible on WarGear.
Very original...I didn't even know you could have game rules like this in a wargear map! Very fun! My only complaint is that the end game takes 2 steps when it only needs to be one.
This is a brain buster. I've played a couple games now and I have just begun to realize that I have a lot to learn! Totally different from every other game out there.
This board is much fun. Make smart moves to lose your stones as fast as possible. But beware of the fact that in the end you have to be a little lucky. As it often comes down to a point where one player cannot win, but he can prefent somebody else from winning. Therefore he can "choose" the winner of the game.
Great concept. Nicely developed map. Very frustrating.
This map seems like a lot of fun until you realize that most games come down to an arbitrary decision by an arbitrary player. It doesn't really matter what you do at the start of the game, what matters is which players are next to each other at the end, and most of the time you have very little control over this. Every game I have lost, the victory could have been prevented by some other player if they had known what they were doing.
I think I will try playing some private games on this map.. maybe that will change my opinion that this map is a waste of time.
9.49, then I rounded. Great application of a brilliant idea. Simple rules, endless complexity. Rewards the alert. Perhaps worthy of a 10 with more plays.
Looks great, plays great! super unique board that makes you think out every move and placement. Have to decided when it's best to prevent someone's match or just work on your own.
Very unique board, but requires all players to understand dynamics for it to be enjoyable. Watch out for playing against a new player on the board: if even one player doesn't understand the requirement to keep your opponents in check (specifically whomever follows you turn-wise), the game will end quickly. Amazing use of factories; EN never ceases to amaze.
