The War of the Ring offers a simulgear rendition of the Third Age of Middle Earth from J.R.R. Tolkein's Lord of the Rings. Three different scenarios let players dive into this world in a variety of ways.

In the original team game scenario (3v2), players take on the mantle of either the Lords of the West – playing Elves, Dwarves or Men – or the evil axis of the Eye and the Hand.

The 3v3 scenario provides a tournament-friendly format with the addition of the Goblins of the North to the White Hand and the Lidless Eye.

Finally, the free-for-all (FFA) scenario lets up to eight players try to grab all the glory and power for themselves. Each player is randomly assigned to the starting position of the Elves, the Dwarves, the Men of Gondor, the Rangers of the North, the Haradrim, Mordor, Isengard, or the Witch King of Angmar.
