This is an old revision of the document!

======LOTGR (Lord of the Gear Rings)======

<description>

This map is inspired by Tolkien's classic works and also by the original risk map by Doom. It is turn-based and features strongholds which attack or defend with advantage.

Scenarios

  1. Simple Version - this is a simplified version of the original scenario, about 15 less territories, removes most one-way borders and makes the tunnel into Morder a 2-way border.
  2. Basic Version - not as simple as the simple version, but removes some one-way borders and a couple territories
  3. Basic Full Map - the Basic Version, plus the territories of Khand and Forodwaith. This is the only scenario with those territories in play.
  4. Original scenario
  5. Factory Strongholds - This scenario adds to the original by having owned strongholds generate a +1 bonus to nearby territories (typically 5 or 6 locations) if those locations are also owned. Card sets bumped to a value of 10.
  6. Tower Vision version - map fog is heavy in this scenario and stronghold vision is somewhat restricted, but there are 10 towers spread around the map which offer vision to nearby areas.
  7. The Tower of Orthanc - builds on the original but with Isengard having more value both with bonus and in it's vision of the entire map.
  8. Shadow of the Balrog - this is a team 3vs1 game, with the forces of good teaming up to constrain and defeat the Balrog.
  9. Second Age Teams - this is a 3v3 team game of good vs evil in a set piece battle during the 2nd Age.

Strategies and Tips

For the Factory stronghold version, take strongholds as early as you can, then try to acquire nearby locations, securing them with 2 or more units.

For the Shadow of the Balrog scenario, it's very important for the Allies to connect to themselves as quickly as possible. This allows them to fortify to eachother to fight off the largest threats by the Balrog. On the other hand, for the Balrog, it's important to expand quickly and try to wall off atleast one of the enemies and then eliminate that enemy while providing enough pressure on the other players to fend them off.
