..what are the odds of the singeton winning those consecutive rolls?

running 10,000 simulations on the wargear calculator it's slightly under 1%

Thanks M. I'm suprised it's even close to 1%.  Was that for the 4 offensive rolls or the 7 consecutive rolls overall?

A singleton takes units off two defensive dice more often than you'd think. I've done a fair bit of those attacks since I play team games on boards with no team fortify (like Antastic!), where you will often want to waste units so partner can take bonus territories.

    Number of Attacking Units

    1

This is the # that can attack, so if you have 4 guys in a territory, but have to leave one behind, use '3'. If you don't have to leave any behind, use '4'.

    1

    Attacking Dice Sides

    8

Give up attack, if (attacker) down to:
This does not include any units that have to be left behind (i.e. 1 extra unit in no abandon). So if you are playing on a board without abandon, set this to zero, to implying leave no *extra* guys behind - just the 1 you have to.

    0

    Number of Defending Units

    4

    Defending Dice Sides

    8

    Show Details
If you turn this on the code runs about 100x slower. DO NOT try this with large numbers of units or large numbers of simulations

    Chance of Success: 0.0094

Average # of Attackers left: 0.0

Average # of Defenders left: 3.6

I find that following the directions on the left explicitly doesn't work; it freezes the engine. (I.e. Attacking with 2 and giving up when attacker is down to 1.)  That's why you see those fields set to 1 and 0 respectively. I really should do a small sample run and check the "details" box to corroborate that it's doing things correctly.

EDIT: Just tried. Things are wonky.

What’s the most losses in a row to a singleton? Heads-up dice or better only.

    I've "only" had 9 vs 1 turn into 1 vs 1.

Which is the same as I've had an opponent experience against me. No double figures as yet. At least not in games where I reviewed history, i might have missed something somewhere.

It was worth trying the 1-dice attack at the end, due to a bonus that ideally should be broken (but wasn't).

We're of course talking standard 6 vs 6 dice.

My personal worst against a singleton is a 14v1 failing in d6v6.

Come to think of it, I recall seeing a 19v1 fail in d6v6 in a game I was in (I was neither the 19, nor the 1). Cost him an elimination, which cost him the game.

Makes me wonder what's the best run where you could only attack with 1 against a stack.  - but that belongs on a different thread.

No Fog = Crab Game, where the best strategy is to maintain parity, and generally the most patient player wins. It's just one of the reasons I only play fogged games.

Nice - some games, especially 3 person games, your dice luck almost doesn't matter. If everyone is trying to keep the top dog from getting to far ahead, bad dice luck can just mean the other two can stay busy pounding on each other and ignoring you...

I've possibly had worse, but this was a particularly amazing result on a roll today (standard 6 v 6 dice): "Attacker lost 20 units : Defender lost 0 units"
