My first two PC games were Star Control 2 and the original Warcraft - 2 titles which went to the classic list - and I'll always have fond memories of both, especially the humorous and well-fleshed out Star Control. My 3rd game was Stonekeep, which I only recently defeated (the game on my old PC had a bug which didn't left me get past the final levels) after downloading a gog.com version for a couple dollars over 20 years later. Anyone else?

I missed this PC era of gaming as marrying and parenting consumed my time -

Go back a bit to the NES with Bubble Bobble, Bionic Commando and Legendary Wings

Or before that with the Commodore 64 with Maniac Mansion, Pool of Radiance or Might and Magic -

Or before that with the 'ole Atari 2600

Or we could go forward in time to when my kids were really into Freddi Fish

Love the old PC games. Still play some of them on occasion. There are so many I have fond memories of it will be hard to narrow it down.

I started off on the qbasic games Gorillas and Nibbles. Played a lot of shareware dos games. Loved the Commander Keen series particularly Secret of the Oracle.

Played a bunch of edutainment titles. Where in Space is Carmen Sandiego. Oregon Trail. The Learning Company games like Treasure Mountain and Gizmos and Gadgets. I've been playing Treasure Math Storm a lot with my 6yo daughter recently on classicreload.

Played a lot of the Sierra adventure games like King's Quest and Space Quest. King's Quest V being one of my all time favorite games. There are some fantastic fan remakes of the earlier King's Quest series that I would highly recommend (agdinteractive and infamous-adventures).

Played a lot of Warcraft II on LAN. Bolo (not PC but mac) was also a great tank game to play on networks.

A bunch of the old Maxis sim games (not the Sims!). Particularly SimCity, SimCity 2000, and SimAnt.

Civilization II is definitely one of my all time favorites. Still get it out and play it on occasion. Great modding too. Also sometimes play remakes like C-evo.

So many others also. Probably many I'm forgetting at the moment. Descent was awesome. Myst. Tie-fighter. Half-life. More recently Portal.

Love going back through these.  SOOOOOO many days of my childhood lost to these games.  Trying to put them in approximate chronological order:

Zork - Text based adventure game
    Zaxxon - flying game
Sierra Championship Boxing - Better than Mike Tyson's Punchout
SimCity 2000 - Best game based on the world's most boring career: Urban Planner
Leisure Suit Larry - Which my parents bought for 10 year old me, because apparently they didn't understand game ratings
7th Guest - For me, a better version of Myst
Doom and Quake - Obvious choices, but hours and hours wasted during LAN parties

And, my favorite game of all time - Monkey Island (the whole series) - Action, adventure, problem solving, and great characters.  Who could ask for more?

I've been holding off on posting, because I have so many I love...

Probably my favorite game ever was STARSIEGE TRIBES.  The freedom of movement with the jet pack and skiing is just unparalleled.  I've never played another game that came close to the sheer joy I feel just moving around in tribes.   Then add in energy management, the variety of balanced weapons, sizes, game modes, etc.

Close runner ups are Monkey Island, Ultima IV and Civilization.  Everyone probably knows of those classics.

    Other great games

Tetris - except I actually liked "The Next Tetris" the best.  blocks fell in multiple colors, and they could fall apart once they landed - added a new level of strategic thought.  I actually kept an old PC around for over a decades where the it's only purpose was to play this game.

Others you guys mentioned - Sim City, 7th Guest, Kings Quests, Doom & Wolf3D (original) & Quake.

Anyone play railroad tycoon?  Or roller coaster tycoon?

Dune 2 - first RTS I played, then C&C and warcraft.

    M.U.L.E. on the C64.

    X-wing, Tie-Figher & Wing Commander

Bards Tale & Populous & Zany Golf on my Atari ST.  I recently found Zany Golf online, I wonder if I can play the others somewhere?

Star Control II still my all time favourite.

But to add to the list:

    Crusader: No Remorse.

    Frontier Elite II

    Jagged Alliance 2

Just played a bit.  I can't remember any of the keys.  I'll need to find a manual somewhere.

On a side note.  I absolutely cannot believe how bad the graphics are on some of these old games.  Wing Commander is a good example, but the best example for me was Zany Golf, which I remember as a kid thinking had amazing graphics, and they are just godawful.  Look at the textures in these screenshots:

yes!   Found a video of zany golf to better experience it's awesome 8-bitness (just checked and it's actually 16-bit, oh lord).

    love that soundtrack!

Side note - played wolfenstein3d with my daughter last night & she really liked it.  This was after she vetoed zany golf and pronounced tetris "boring and too hard"

Lol, good girl.  {#emotions_dlg.thumb}    You're on your way to having a video-game addict daughter Ozy.

Total Annihilation was the first game I played against a friend over dial up. I think I cost my parents about £30 for that first time! w00ps!

Morrowind, Age of Empires, Civilisation, Theme Hospital, Baldurs Gate, Ultima Online the list goes on.

    Off Topic!

I played a ton of CIV back in the day - can't remember if it was the original or CIV2.

    >Ultima Online

Never got into MMORPGs, but UltimaIV will always hold a special place in my heart.  That game was amazing!    Would love to play it again, but I think it was quite a time commitment.

Did anyone else ever play Moonbase Commander or The Specialists (HL1 mod)?
