I've had a tourney that for the last month or so, has been stuck on 28-30 players, when I only need to get to 32 total:
http://www.wargear.net/tournaments/view/1945
I've tried the following to fill it up:
- Inviting everyone who's played at least 2 games on this board
- Inviting players logged in to WGW whenever I am logged in
- Inviting people playing other active tourneys
- Posting on "Tourneys you Should Join" Forum thread.
Any other ideas on getting this tourney started?
Thanks,
Chele Nica
I have been known to invite people who have a username vaguely relating to the theme of the board.
So, if it was a Lord of the rings board, and your name was
Gimli, frodo, Bilbo, aragorn, legolas, strider, weathertop, mordor, gollum, Sam, elrond, gandalf, or variation on those, you'd get an invite. It's a bit spammy, but it amuses me and I feel like if you named yourself weathertop, you kinda asked for it...
Create two fake accounts and have them join.
Be sure to use incognito mode and do one from your local starbucks and the other from an out-of-town McDonalds and go through anonymizer.com.
:)
Hilarious, both of you :)
And for whatever reason, the tourney filled up in the last few hours since I posted, maybe I just had to cry out (in print) to the universe for my intention to finally materialize....
Yup, public begging worked.
So wanna pass along a few tips for this board!?
Sorry Chele, I'da helped you out with that one, but the games on that board are necessarily loooooooong.... and I lose interest too quickly to make it all the way through.
No worries, ratsy, see you on another board
Keedy black: i'm not an expert on the board, but here are some things that have worked for me:
-look for a region that you have more territories in, and start collexting bonuses there. Avoid fighting with someone else at beginning, unless you can take out that other player's bonuses to assert your xontrol.
-keep an eye out about where other players are expanding, and seek to expand elsewhere if possible
-if you have to xompete for bonuses / region, focus on one enemy at a time
-skulls give vision, but others who control skulls can see what skulls you xontrol. Don't take all skull bonuses because you may appear to be stronger than you actually are, but do take the ones in your region
-orbs come into play a lot later, if you take one be sure to have the resources to back it up, as you will be seen as the one to beat if you take one or both of them
Hope this helps!
Thanks!
Seems like the kjeldor maps a bit with the vision/not getting into unnecessary battles early.

Mr. Underhill, if you please, sir.
I'm not sure if this helps, but possible reasons I might not join a tournament:
itsnotatumor wrote:I'm not sure if this helps, but possible reasons I might not join a tournament:
- Don't like the board
- Too many rounds/games
- Too few players per game (3 player games suck. It's like starting in an end- game stalemate)
- Clock: 1 day is sometimes too tight depending on RL. 7 days will take forever.
- Too many players (again will take forever).
Thanks, i think this tourney had a couple of those, fortunately it was able to fill
