Howdy Folks,

I'm playing a 2 player War of the Roses game (only my second game on this board) and we're having 2 problems:

1) I've taken the crown and eliminated my opponents rose (I control crown & both roses)

2) I've been unable to 'hire' mercenaries/place units on the mercenary at any point in the game

Any ideas about what's going on?  What are we doing wrong?  Am I missing something?

Thanks for such a quick response.

Since I posted that message I took my next turn & wiped out all (almost all?) my opponents units.  Says he has 3 units & 3 territories, but I don't see 'em.

Great board by the way... I love the board/gameplay.

Hmm, very strange - right from the start you couldn't put any armies on the mercenaries. Never seen that before.  Might be a job for tom - I'm the designer and I'll double check on my end.  I haven't made an update to that board in a long time so I'm not sure what's going on.

I saw you were the designer...  Great work, I really like the board.  No worries about this particular game, I was just curious about what was going on and wondering if I wasn't understanding how it works.  My opponent can just surrender, don't waste any time on this problem unless it affects others/other games.

OK - Somehow, the "Territories" for the 2-player version became locked.  All those other 1s at the bottom of the board shouldn't be there, and I'm pretty sure there are other problems that go along with the lock. No clue how that happened, and it's not an easy fix.  Sorry, I know it's probably meaningless designer-geek-speak to you.. Not sure how I want to proceed from here..

No I get it (I don't know how they're locked), but I understand what you're saying & it's not meaningless.  I'll try a 3 player game and see if I have the same problem.

K - I think I fixed it with a version update.

BTW, I love this board. Just started playing it and still need to learn different approaches and strategies, but it's one of the few boards where I immediately feel like it's going to be a favorite.

It appears that the error may be tied to light blue....

Yeah - the mercenaries spot never filled with light blue throughout the game as it was supposed to.  Haven't seen that happen in quite a while, but I do remember seeing that problem a long time ago.. It's gotta be a bug of some sort - hopefully a strange obscure and rarely occurring one.

i cant put any units on the merchenaries spot ...

Yeah - It's a weird problem that I haven't seen in years and all of a sudden it's cropping up again.  Someone else noted it just a few weeks ago. The mercs don't get captured - so they stay the property of the first player throughout the game.
