Whose default was greater than 2.
Is there a formula for doing this with the least amount of pain. I've done this with a couple maps and after I switch the player allocation to 2 and/or change the color tab (to remove the unneeded colors), I pretty much lose everything other than the map image (territories, borders, continents, etc disappear).
Ideas?
This is a scenario, right? Is it a lock issue? Could you give us the # for the main map?
#5437
I can find all of the scenarios, but none for 2-players. Anyway, it probably doesn't matter.
The Designer can be REALLY finicky when you do this kind of thing. Have you changed any territory names ..or perhaps omitted one? ..or even changed the nature of a border? I've found that sometimes you have to unlock more things than you really want. I'd be willing to bet you're going to need to unlock pretty much everything in this case. At least because the base board is established and all the kinks are worked out, it shouldn't be a problem.
Everything's unlocked, of course. Having to re-add all the territories, borders and continents IS a problem.
Just wondering what the best way to go about it would have been, between updating the setup, the colors and the #players...?
More important is making sure you don't lose everything, right? ..or did you solve that already?
You could always try copying and pasting the xml from one scenario to the other to get the territories/borders/etc.
Thingol, I'm not sure why you had to unlock all of the territories, borders and continents. You should be able to just unlock scenario, colors and images, I think. I just tried a real quick conversion test to a 1v1 version of my War of the Ring board, and I didn't seem to run into any of the issues you have brought up... Have you considered starting over with a fresh new copy of the original board?
That's what I'm going to try...
So far so good. I definitely edited the setup (to change unused player territories to neutral) before moving to the Colors tab. Then, When finished there and going to the Settings tab, I noticed that it was automatically set to 2-players.
Well, it was too good to last apparently. I lost some territories and borders overnight somehow.

That's what's been happening to me when I import XML. I usually lose continents/factories.
I think there is some sort of bug going on with the designer. I too am having weird occurrences when importing XML files, where borders and things just randomly disappear. In this game, for example, all of the tunnels are supposed to connect (and used to!):http://www.wargear.net/games/view/383653. However, I've made some new versions and scenarios based off of the original, and now half the tunnel borders have inexplicably vanished.
So, now I'm happy with my 2-player scenario (the default for the map is 6-players)...just wondering what the easiest way to create another 2-player scenario would be? I don't want to go thru all the stuff I had to do to create the other 2-player scenario. It seems like I should be able to create using the baseline as my new 2-player scenario rather than the map's base setup. Is that possible?

Well, in theory, you can just unlock everything and then import the xml from the 2-player. ...assuming the xml is working.
Well, I'd have to export it first, right?
Ever since I accidentally retired some of my maps, I'm a bit jittery when it comes to selecting designer buttons that I haven't before.

Yep - export it from the 2-player - start a new scenario - unlock everything - import xml
worst case scenario is that it doesn't work - then just blow it away.
Got it. Thx.
I created a place on the wiki for us to keep these useful facts that come out of the forum:
