Board Description

The Silmarillion

wikiklinks page:

http://www.wargear.net/wiki/doku.php?id=boards:silmarillion:silmarillion

It's the First Age and the lands of Beleriand are besieged by Morgoth (aka Melkor), the fallen Vala, from his ancient strongholds in the north. However, petty differences have kept the various realms of elves, men and dwarves from uniting for a common cause.

General info:

  • The map contains a few 'choke' points. Familiarize yourself with them as they are key to strategic victory.
  • Continent bonus and stronghold bonus denoted on map.
  • Strongholds have a maximum unit cap (15 for defensive strongholds, 20 for offensive strongholds).
  • Elimination bonus is 10 units.
  • Fortify is to any connected location.
  • Several strongholds have attack or defense advantages:

  • Amon Rudh (+2), Amon Ereb (+1) and the Hill of Himring (+1) attack with advantage.
  • Gondolin defends with extra advantage, can only be attacked from one location (Pass of Anach), and has 4 one-way assualt spots.
  • Thangorodrim defends with extra advantage (-1 attacker, +1 defense) and can only be attacked from one location (Angband). It also affords a view of the nearby areas and a one-way border to Utumno.
  • Angband, Utumno and Halls of Nargothrond also defend with +1 advantage.
  • Menegroth (the 'Hidden Caves') defends with extra advantage (-1 attacker, +1 defense).
  • Most attacks into and within Doriath are at disadvantage.
  • To simplify much of the above, locations with red arrows coming into them defend with advantage. Locations with green arrows coming into them means the attacking position has advantage.

    Images on map:

    Ulmo: Lord of the Sea

    Gondolin: The Hidden City

Also, I have to give credit to Scarecrow, who designed the original map on TOS and was gracious enough to let me amend it graphically and functionally.
