Interesting concept. I like the ice camp disadvantage. I wish cities were functionally different from farms. Seaports allow you to attack other seaports, but aside from that they are identical to both cities and farms. In theory it's the cities and seaports that give you armies, but it doesn't matter if you own all but one farm or all but one city in a territory: they're equivalent.
nice and simple board with a very unique style. Graphics are pretty good, but nothing outstanding. Even gameplay that makes for good games. :) Good board
Good command and conquer board. Fun movement around the board and great graphics that help. Good board for players that just want that take over the world style.
The farm/city dynamic allows players to easily see how much continents are worth from the map. Ports & ice camps work well to vary the way borders work, and provide the perfect amount of choke points to keep things moving.
I seem to recall seeing other variations of this map designed for larger & smaller groups of players, but they are not available here. An addition of some more scenarios to better accommodate different game sizes would probably add another star. For example, a scenario with much fewer starting neutrals might be better for larger groups of players.
I bet this would be a great board with at least four or five people. Somehow, all the games I've ever played on it were 2- or 3-player games, and this board is nearly unplayable that way. Then again, that's true of a lot of boards, so I'm not going to hit it too hard for that.
Outside of that issue, it looks slick, the mountain border modifiers are a nice touch, and there are a fair number of options for players to build around. It doesn't break the mold by any stretch of the imagination, but it does a fine job filling its mold quite well.
A good board! Has a good amount of choke points, and a slick look. Games I have played with 6 or less players tend to be very exciting, and fog adds a nice dimension to it. Just watch where you're going for the first few times through it, the connections between territories are clear if you really focus, but might not always be obvious.
I have liked this map for a while and cannot pinpoint exactly what catches my attention. It may be that I have tended to win or it could be the games I have played have all been fun or something else. I recommend giving the board a try with at least 5 people.
