I just love this map. It totally clicks with me, and I love playing it. It is going to be my main map. The only problem I have is that North America is only worth 3 for the continent bonus, and its too big for such a small bonus. Other than that, I love it!
There's really not much you can do to improve this board. The limit of 3 fortifies at the end of your turn makes you think before you attack... The best way to play it is total fog.
One my favorite board, a small but beautiful modification of original risk with also subcontinents providing bonuses. Fog is definitely a great feature for this game.
Super fun board. The fog is a great feature...forces you to speculate and think. Unfortunately, the first player gets the advantage and the last player gets the disadvantage in the beginning.
Definitely a great board, but I have some small complaints regarding balance.
1. Europeean supercontinent bonus is weirdly high at 6 reserves -- especially considering that it has extremely few territories.
2. Most of Asia is wildly impractical to try to hold onto. I know it's going to be that way in general due to its size and shape. Still, I think the territories could connect in different ways, or be aggregated/divided in a few spots to reduce the number of territories on Asia's perimeter (and on some of its internal territories' perimeters).
I enjoy this game as one of my favorites. It's like playing regular risk only with more territories (and that's good). One thing I would change is to include the ability to disperse troops within your entire turn as you desire instead of being forced to place all of them before the attack phase.
It's pretty good. Graphics are mediocre although I do love the jaunty whale with the beret in the ocean. Balance has a lot of character. Some continents are clearly superior to others - this isn't necessarily a bad thing. The unique ruleset can create difficult situations - repeating cardscale makes fog almost a requirement, and while I see the challenging value of the lack of history, I can't say it ever makes me happy.
