Fun game for a large number of players. I like the corner to corner attacks and the middle territory attack to the corners. Good balance of continent bonuses and territory bonuses. I also like boards that allow return to placement after attack and return to attack after fortify, and those options work well on this board.
I love Ed's boards, but this one doesn't do it for me. Graphics are nothing special, gameplay seemed really drawn out and slow. Now perhaps if i was competing for victory, i'd be much more fun. But getting caught in a corner, simply surviving with one territory is not very fun. This one just isn't my cup of tea.
Be prepared for a LONG game. Hard to estimate your current status within the game, especially given the fog. You want to see how fog can make a mediocre game into an epic battle, just play one round on this board.
Once I actually paid attention to the rules, I found the game put together really well (the return to place after attack really helps make the board work without having to do connected fortifies). I think it could take a while for the last two players to finish the game, but that's probably true in most boards with a large number of territories. Great game.
Some positions may be slightly better than others, but that's the way the Lead Pipe crumbles. Excellent design. To maintain that creepy sneaking around feeling you really have to leave fog on. Nothing better than attacking someone and finding out you've wiped them out.
I first played this on WF, and nearly won a tourney on it. Regardless, I love it here too. Great idea EN! One of my favorites. Of course it doesn't hurt that I have THE top rating on it at the time of this review! ;-)
